Minor - Minor 7th Chords

Minor - Minor 7th Chords

The minor chord is a simple three note chord that is also called the minor triad. It is made with the root, flatted (minor) third and the perfect fifth. There are several forms that are movable up and down the neck.

The minor seventh chord is a four note chord made with the root, minor (flatted) third, perfect fifth and the flatted seventh. Three minor 7th chord forms using the D Minor 6th Tuning have the 5th directly below and the tonic or root note directly above the 7th giving a fuller sound. The minor 7th chord is enharmonically equivalent to the 6th chord of its relative major. For example the Dm7 chord has the same notes as the F6 chord.
